On July 5th, 2018, Brasstown Manor, alongside our local VFW and Misty Mountain Quilters in Blairsville, GA, presented two of our residents with their Quilt of Honor. For those who are unaware, the Quilt of Valor/Honor was started in 2003. To this day, more than 106,000 veterans have been presented with a quilt. These quilts are presented to veterans who have been touched by war during their time of service. The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to "cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor."
Mr. Frontz Goring, Towns County's oldest resident, joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served until his honorable discharge in 1945. Shirley Sonnenfeld joined as a Navy Wave in 1943 and was stationed in Washington, DC until her discharge in 1946. Both of these veterans are active parts of our community here and in our local VFW chapter. Congratulations to these two, and thank you for your service to our country! We also want to extend a big thank you to Towns County's Sole Commissioner, Cliff Bradshaw, and Mayor Liz Ordiales for coming and being such an intricate part of our community!
